ivanhoe 3079 is located approximately 12km north east of melbourne cbd. largely an affluent neighbourhood, it is renowned for its older style homes with many dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. properties regularly sell in this suburb for in excess of $1M.
the suburb is home to many tree lined streets which meander around the yarra river and the extensive parkland and gardens that are prolific through this suburb. The yarra parklands also provide an extensive array of bike trails and walking paths and one can cycle or walk for up to 74km on the network of trails that wind their way from as far out as diamond creek to the cbd and join up to the inner city networks.

ivanhoe hosts two private schools: ivanhoe grammar school and ivanhoe girls grammar.
heidelberg is the home of the austin mercy hospital and is the largest suburban hospital in melbourne and also is home to the olivia newton john cancer research facility.
latrobe university is located at the end of waterdale road in bundoora approx 5km from ivanhoe and hosts many international students.

upper heidelberg road is considered to be the suburb's centre and features an excellent array of boutique strip shops including exclusive apparel, bookstores, top restaurants, two supermarkets and two pharmacies. ivanhoe has no chain stores so there is a distinct village feel to the shopping precinct. As one wanders through the village, it is easy to understand why it has become so popular as a place to live.

there are two railway stations in ivanhoe; darebin and ivanhoe central. it is classed as a premium station and is in the metcard zone 1 and 2 overlap.
eaglemont and heidelberg also have railway stations.

one of ivanhoe’s renowned features are the annual christmas lights on the boulevard. Every year many residents on the street cover their homes and front gardens with lights and other colorful christmas decorations.
